The fact that one could actually drive down Hollywood Blvd. That's something that is damn near impossible now. Way too crowded.

We left LA in 1980. My parents grew up here. We recently came back (temporarily). It's super dirty and crowded. Everything is spray painted and bars in doors and windows. Such a shame.

It's amazing to follow this on Google Maps. Some of the old buildings are still there, renovated but still there. That bus stop is still there. The girl selling the L.A. Free Press newspaper obviously isn't still there. Haaa! :) It would be a total spinout if she was, or at least someone who looked like her. It would be really could if someone did that. Dress up like that girl and holding a wad of newspapers.

This is before the overcrowding in L.A. Now the freeways is packed with cars. It's a parking lot. We have way too many people living here.

Most of this looks like they were cruising the blocks just off Southern Boluevard. I'm not totally sure on locations in the first part of this but for the last couple minutes I am: 8:38 Charlotte Street going north, looking west and approaching E 170th Street 8:57 Charlotte Street, looking east on Seabury Place (East 170th Street would be behind the photographer). The infamous FDNY fire alarm pull box #2743 would've been behind the photographer too. The cupola-looking structure on the high school in the distance, which is still there, is the landmark. 9:36 Charlotte Street going north, approaching Boston Road and looking west. 9:54 turning from Charlotte Street northbound to Boston Road northbound, passing P.S. 61. The video ends as they get to Suburban Place.

@1:24 you can see the Angels Flight Railway to the left (yellow archway)- Bunker Hill, downtown LA. Next scene is the landmark Ralphs Market in Westwood, built in 1929 and now protected by historic designation, but hasn't been owned by Ralphs for decades.

How come so many white people left Los Angeles? It was called the White Flight. If you study history you'll find out blacks and Hispanics have always been extremely racist people long to before white people came to this land

My question is why did the rest of America look fine and not like a war zone from WW2 or Vietnam, and the Bronx looked like this during a time of prosperity? As a historical point doesn't AOC the dumbest member of Congress represent this dump, and it still sucks mostly because they voted for this airhead actress? It seems the Bronx is a worthless, broken dump occupied by absolute trash. I mean look at it. This place is disgusting and a disgrace to the United States even to this day.

I think that last shot of downtown LA isn’t real- I think it’s a composite shot from John Carpenter’s “Someone’s Watching Me!” A 70’s TV movie with Lauren Hutton living in a downtown high rise apt who is being spied upon by someone who lives in the twin building next door.

I grew up in Union, NJ class of 1979. Right across the street was the Liberty Tavern and a route 78 on ramp to NYC holland tunnel into lower manhattan. Everyone was buying beans on 14th street. Tuinals aka too-ees Lily F-66 the orange and blue pill $3 each. They would have killed me but I left to go surf California in March 1980 and never looked back.
